Having "Hand Carved" several signs around 2003 and 2004, I was directed to another shop in Rochester who had a CNC Router (Computer Numerically Controlled). Once I saw this thing in action and the precision of the work performed, I realized the need for one.
Our original purpose was to use the machine for just carving letters and shapes into boards and High Density Urethane Foam.
We purchased a used machine and rebuilt it as possible. This machine allows us to carve, and fabricate parts, pieces, signs and stencils from a variety of Plastics, Wood, Composites and High Density Urethane Foam.
We have also found ways to modify the machine for other purposes, such as Engine Turning Aluminum or Stainless Steel panels. The issues with this procedure was the panel sizes were limited to the depth of the machine being used (such as a drill press) to perform this task. With our Router we are able to process a complete 4' x 8' panel.
We use Cad-Link Profilelab 8.0 and can import .dxf and g-code files as needed.
